About This Event
The Mýrdalshlaup Trail Run takes place annually in the scenic surroundings of Vík í Mýrdal in Iceland, a region known for its stunning scenery and dramatic landscapes. The race offers beautiful views of Reynisdrangar sea stacks, Dyrhólaey arch, and Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, with the famous Black Sand beaches serving as a central feature of the course. Organized by one family - four siblings, spouses and parents - on a voluntary basis, this trail run emphasizes good organization, safety, and a friendly approach while introducing runners to the unique nature of southern Iceland. The event is a non-profit organization where all income goes toward strengthening runner safety and improving the overall experience. The race starts and finishes at the Sports facilities and Swimming pool in Vík, with runners walking together to the Black Sand beach (Víkurfjara) where the actual race begins. Well-marked routes and manned checkpoints ensure safety throughout the challenging terrain.
