About This Event
The Tissington Trail Marathon follows a historic 13-mile railway line between Ashbourne and Buxton through the heart of Derbyshire's Peak District. This traffic-free converted rail trail offers runners a unique out-and-back course that climbs steadily uphill to Parsley Hay for the first half, then rewards with a gentle downhill return to Ashbourne Leisure Centre. The former railway cutting provides a rare opportunity to experience Derbyshire's countryside without road traffic concerns. The surface and gradual inclines make this race suitable for both experienced marathon runners and first-time marathon attempts, with a generous six-hour cutoff to accommodate a range of paces. Nice Work Race Management has designed this event to showcase the natural beauty and heritage of the Peak District while maintaining the welcoming atmosphere that defines smaller trail events in the region.
