About This Event
The Grim Reaper unfolds across the stunning grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle Estate in South Lincolnshire, where runners traverse a scenic 10-mile loop through ancient woodland, limestone tracks, and quiet estate roads. The route includes a stretch along a disused Victorian railway line and skirts the picturesque estate lake before finishing in front of the historic castle itself. Relaunched in 2023 by local runners Steve Cole and Laura Bailey, this event emphasizes inclusivity and community, catering to runners of all abilities with distances ranging from 10 miles to 100 miles. The undulating terrain makes it particularly appealing to those new to ultra-running or seeking personal bests, while the scenic setting and supportive atmosphere have earned consistently high ratings from participants. The event features both day and night 10-mile options, plus a team relay component, creating a festival-like atmosphere over the May weekend. With on-site camping, hot food service, and the castle grounds serving as a dramatic backdrop, The Grim Reaper combines serious trail running with an accessible, welcoming environment.
