About This Event
The Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser held in remote north-west Tasmania, set in the heart of one of Earth's last truly wild places. Since its inception in 2014, this event has grown to become the Bob Brown Foundation's largest annual fundraising effort, raising over $400,000 in 2025 to protect the globally significant Takayna wilderness from mining, logging, and deforestation threats. Runners experience the diverse landscapes of ancient Gondwanan rainforests, traversing forests of ferns, fungi, epiphytes, lichen, and mosses alongside towering eucalypt trees and myrtle forests. The challenging terrain includes steep hills, uneven surfaces, and mystical green valleys, offering participants an immersive journey through landscapes with lineage dating back to the ancient supercontinent of Gondwanaland. The event operates from the Men's Shed in Waratah as headquarters, providing a remote wilderness experience with essential support infrastructure.
