About This Event
Set in what organizers call "the most beautiful municipality of the Azores," the Povoação Trail takes runners through the stunning landscapes of São Miguel Island's eastern region. Organized by HL Runners Club in partnership with the Povoação Municipal Council, this event showcases the dramatic volcanic terrain that defines this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The race explores the historic municipality of Povoação, which was elevated to municipal status in 1839 and represents some of the Azores' most pristine natural beauty. Runners traverse ancient volcanic trails, coastal paths, and mountain ridges that offer commanding views of the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring islands. With four distinct distances ranging from a 9-kilometer walk to a challenging 50-kilometer ultra, the event welcomes runners of all abilities to experience this remote Portuguese archipelago. The March timing provides ideal conditions for exploring these Atlantic islands, where the temperate climate and dramatic topography create an unforgettable trail running experience.
