About This Race
The 50K extends beyond the 30K's single loop to challenge runners with additional terrain and sustained effort over technical mountain trails. This distance demands experienced trail runners comfortable with longer climbs and descents, as the extended time on course requires strong pacing discipline and mental fortitude through the later miles. Runners seeking to step up from shorter trail distances will find this a substantial but achievable progression that tests both physical endurance and trail-specific skills.
The 30K follows the classic "Legend of Bear Pete" loop, gaining approximately 3,500 feet of elevation on technical alpine singletrack through the Payette National Forest. The 50K extends the challenge by beginning with the Willow and Jeanette Creek Trails, including a climb of Crystal Mountain before joining the Bear Pete loop to the finish.
Both courses showcase the demanding terrain that made the original IMTUF100 legendary among mountain ultrarunners. Runners navigate narrow singletrack, steep climbs, and technical descents while surrounded by the pristine wilderness of central Idaho's high country.
