About This Event

The H.C. Andersen Marathon transforms Odense into a festive running scene each September, celebrating both the joy of running and Denmark's fairy tale heritage. Set in the hometown of the famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, this event has been creating running adventures since 2000 on a fast, traffic-free route through Odense's streets. The marathon gained international recognition in 2019 when it was named the world's fastest marathon based on average finishing times, making it an ideal destination for runners chasing personal records. Beyond the competitive aspect, HCA Marathon serves as a celebration for the entire family, with options ranging from the full marathon to a 4.2-kilometer MiniMarathon for young runners. As part of the Funen Challenge (Den Fynske Udfordring), runners can earn special recognition by completing all three races in the series within the same calendar year. The event combines Denmark's rich cultural heritage with modern race organization, offering a unique blend of athletic achievement and storytelling tradition in one of Denmark's most charming cities.
