About This Event

Held annually on the first weekend of August, the Gondo Marathon commemorates the devastating landslide of October 14, 2000, that claimed 13 lives in the small village of Gondo at Simplon Pass. This intimate trail running event has been bringing the international running community together since 2002, fostering a spirit of remembrance and resilience in the Swiss Alps. The event offers multiple formats centered around a challenging two-day double marathon that traverses 84 kilometers through the dramatic landscapes of Valais. Runners experience the imposing Gondo Gorge, ascend to high alpine passes, and navigate single-track trails through varied terrain from southern pine forests to colorful alpine meadows. The race maintains its familial atmosphere with passionate volunteers and a close-knit community of participants. Beyond the flagship double marathon, the event includes single-day options and a popular children's race, making it accessible to runners of various abilities while preserving its memorial character and connection to the local community.
